GLENDOWER GOLF CLUB

The Glendower Country club is a must play for any golfer visiting the area. The golf course is not only one of the oldest but is also rated as one of the best in the Johannesburg area and belongs in the top 10 rated course in South Africa.

This challenging, well-designed golf course is superbly manicured and is situated in aesthetically pleasing natural surroundings. Glendower was declared a natural conservation in 1973 to protect the abundance of bird life and lush vegetation on the course.

Water is plentiful and streams run through the course into three large dams. This provides for water hazards on 11 of the 18 holes. Added to this are the 85 bunkers that are lurking around every corner of this challenging, wooded parklands course!

The holes are long and rife with sand traps and water hazards; the rough and semi rough are thick with many splendid well-established trees and shrubs. The fairways are sown with the hardy kikuyu grass and the bent grass greens make for a putting surface that is fast and true.

The signature second sets the tone for a course that demands accuracy on every hole. At 490m this long par 5 can be reached in two but be careful of the stream that runs down the left side of the narrow fairway. The green is well guarded by three bunkers.

LOCATION

Take the Linksfield turn-off from the (N3) highway. Turn right over the highway towards Linksfield and turn left at the traffic light into Civin Road. Pass the saheti school and turn left at the second set of traffic lights after the school and go under the bridge. At the T-junction immediately after the tunnel, turn right into Boeing Avenue. Go through one traffic light and at the intersection where the bridge crosses the freeway, turn left into Marias Road. Carry on straight down the road till you reach the golf club entrance.
