King Williams Town lies approximately 50 km west of East London, and is considered one of the most interesting towns in the Eastern Cape Regions to visit. Much of the historical stone buildings and beautiful archeology dates back to the time of the Frontier Wars.
There are a number of interesting museums to visit in the area, one being the Amathole Museum which houses the biggest collection of mammals in Africa. Both Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki are from this area and interested tourists can visit the Nelson Mandela Museum. The Nelson Mandela Route starts at King Williams Town and extends to Umtata.
